Rising amateurs and professionals vie for Toyota Tour spots in upcoming Q School

on

The second Qualifying School (Q School) for the 2024 Toyota Tour kicks off tomorrow at Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club. After a competitive first Q School at Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club, where Malcolm Ting emerged victorious, the upcoming event is expected to be another intense contest for playing rights on the domestic tour.

Among the 82 professionals and amateurs competing, newly-turned professional Liyana Durisic will be a key player to watch. Returning from her US collegiate career, Durisic impressed by finishing 3rd in the ASEAN Qualifier for the Maybank LPGA Championship, earning one of five spots in the main event next month at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club. Last year, she won the Ladies Championship at the Corolla Cross tournament at Palm Garden GC, narrowly defeating Aretha Pan in a two-hole play-off.

Another competitor to watch is Allycia Gan, who also participated in the ASEAN Qualifier. Though her results were not ideal, she’s determined to perform well and secure her spot on the Toyota Tour.

Experienced professional Muhammad Afif Fathi, ranked 17th on the Toyota Tour Order of Merit, will be bringing his expertise to the event. He recently had a strong showing at an Asian Development Tour event in Danang, Vietnam, where he was one of only four Malaysians to make the cut.

Veteran Steven Tan, known for his roles at several top Klang Valley clubs, is also competing. Another notable name is Mohd Shanizam Mohagi, club manager at Royal Perak Golf Club, who made an impression with his performance at the Corolla Cup last year.

The three-day event will have a cut-off after the first and second rounds. Players must finish with a total score of 15-over-par or better to secure their place on the Toyota Tour calendar.
